Qualifying For Naturalization
In order to be eligible to become a U.S. citizen, applicants must be at least 18 years of age. They must also be a lawful permanent resident of the United States, usually meaning that they must currently have a green card. The naturalization process involves the following steps:
- Application: The application, Form N-400, must be completed and submitted to the appropriate Service Center. The application must include two photographs of yourself along with necessary documents.
- Fingerprinting: The fingerprinting will be completed at a location specified by the USCIS.
- Interview and exam: During the interview, you will be asked questions pertaining to your application and background. The exam will test your knowledge of English and civics.
- Oath of allegiance: If your application is accepted, you will be required to take an oath of allegiance.
